Konvekta CO2 heat pumps are air-conditioning systems for rail vehicles, offering optimum comfort for personnel and maximum energy efficiency for vehicles.
A heat pump is tasked with getting the maximum from a fraction of the supplied energy to create greater heating comfort.
The system takes up to 75 % of its required energy (heat) from nature - i.e. from the surrounding air (COP = up to 4).
Furthermore, energy savings are achieved through:
• the natural refrigerant R744 (CO2)
• specifically developed components (e.g. heat exchanger)
Advantages
Up to 75 % of the necessary heat energy is extracted free of charge from the environment.
The system requires at most 25 % operating energy.
This means: up to 4 kW heating capacity is achieved from 1 kW battery energy = COP 4*

Cost and environmental saving potential - energy consumption

The heat pump reduces energy consumption,e.g. by 60 % at -10 °C when compared with classical electric heating systems.
When considered over a whole year, including air conditioning, energy requirements are reduced significantly.
Highly effi cient performance
The Konvecta CO2 heat pump is highly efficient: to generate 100 % heat, the heat pump always needs only a fraction of supplied energy (electricity).
The benefi ts of using CO2 as the refrigerant
R744 (carbon dioxide / CO2) is extremely suitable as an alternative to the current refrigerant R134a. CO2 (R744) is a natural component of air and has a greenhouse potential of only Factor 1.
Therefore, there are no legal restrictions for the use of CO2.
